‘Community Voice’ to Pre-select Mayor, Hold Fundraiser and Social Event This Sunday at Port Kembla Leagues Club – All Invited

The ‘Community Voice’ campaign will hold a major social and fundraiser event this Sunday at Port Kembla Leagues club as well as pre-select its Mayor candidate for the Council elections in September.

The organisers are inviting the entire Illawarra community to come and meet our Council candidates and the Mayoral nominees, as well as vote in the Mayoral pre-selection.

This major meet and greet event is not only for Community Voice members but also their families and friends, and anyone else who is interested in participating in community democracy.

The Community Voice campaign is about community members doing what they can, when then can, and community involvement is central to what has fast become a widespread grassroots movement.

Community Voice Council Candidates and the Mayoral nominees will provide inspirational speeches about their policy platforms and vision for the city. Candidates and Mayoral nominees will address the importance of having a voice in Council to speak for bread and butter issues, environmental protection, long-term job creation, migrants, young people and small to medium-sized business.

One of the high profile Mayoral nominees is former Cunningham MP Michael Organ, who is running for pre-selection as an independent. More nominees will be announced on Thursday 28 July after nominations have closed at 5pm.

The money that is raised from this event will go towards registering the candidates for the election and to promote their bids for a seat on Council.

The organisers are asking for a donation on entry to cover venue hire and catering.

We are also seeking donations of items for auction, as well as expressions of interest from any bands, musical acts and circus performers to perform on the night.

Community Voice t-shirts will be sold at the event as well, and anyone can register for membership on the night ($30/$15 waged/students, unwaged). You must be a member to vote in the Mayoral pre-selections.

The auditorium bar will be open from 4.30pm, and proceedings will begin at 5pm.
